Workplace Mediation

Workplace conflict costs Canadian businesses over $2 billion dollars each year, according to a 2021 study by Morneau Shepell. Aside from the financial cost, workplace conflict harms the mental health and emotional wellbeing of impacted employees. Turnover increases while productivity and engagement decrease. In the worst-case scenarios, organizations can be held liable for the inappropriate behaviour of employees.

When leaders become aware of workplace conflict, they must take action to avoid these negative outcomes. The leader may avoid addressing the situation due to lack of skill or confidence in addressing conflict. Or perhaps they are unable to be unbiased due to previous experience, involvement, or investment in the outcome. Engaging a third party to assist can help to alleviate concern and bias.
